Magliano dei Marsi (L'Aquila)

Magliano dei Marsi, beautiful turistic center situated in the province of L'Aquila, has very ancient origins who seem to come back to when the ancient Roman Emperor, into defeating Alba Fucens, decided to camp its own army just where today there is the built-up area.
The Palentini Planes in front of this town have been theatre, in 1268, of the famous fighting between Carlo D'Angio' and Corradino di Svevia.
But what really characterizes Magliano dei Marsi is its invidiable geographic position and the presence of the natural preserve of "Velino Mount".
Located at meters 728 a.s.l., it rises at the foot of Velino Mount (m.2487 a.s.l.) that, together with the Gran Sasso (Big Stone) and the Majella, is the third biggest mountain of the Apennines. Enchanting natural landscapes, charming high altitude environments and a well organized net of paths, satisfy the needs of all the excursionists.
It is important to remember that Magliano is stage place of the European Path "E1" (Norway-Italy), about 6000 Km long, here in Italy managed by F.I.E.(Italian Federation for Excursionism). In the near hamlet called Rosciolo there's the ancient church of St.Mary in Porclaneta Valley
(XI Century), first National Monument of Region Abruzzo.
During summer and especially in August, are organized many evenings dedicated to recreation, to culture, to entertainment that are set outdoor.
