Un filo culturale, linguistico e artistico sottile ma continuo lega il viaggio storico dei Rom dalle regioni del Nord-Ovest dell'India fino in Occidente. La memoria di un millennario viaggio viene rivissuta idealmente nell'8° Edizione del Festival Internazionale di Musica Zingara 2001, dal Rajasthan fino alla Spagna, attraverso i Balcani e l'Italia. Tappe intermedie di un'esperienza umana, culturale ed artistica originale e intensissima che ha affascinato letterati e musicisti colti di tutto il mondo e in ogni epoca. Grandissimo il contributo della cultura e dell'arte romaní nella musica colta (si pensi alla musica di Brahams, Schubert, Liszt, De Falla, Granados, Turina, Ravel, Bartok, etc…); una grande valorizzazione, senza però dare ai Rom il giusto merito di questo enorme contributo. Soprattutto in un momento come questo, di profonda crisi politica e di tensioni sociali, il rispetto per le minoranze etniche è imprescindibile al fine di creare un mondo migliore per tutti e la musica è un veicolo straordinario che unisce tutti i popoli del mondo. Saper ascoltare le musiche "diverse" aiuta a superare i conflitti e le incomprensioni. La musica Romaní con i suoi stili, con i suoi ritmi, le sue melodie rappresenta un mondo sonoro variegato e paradigmatico, intensissimo e vibrante. Quest'arte piena di vita e di ataviche reminiscenze, extracolta per sua natura, è rivelatrice a chi sa coglierne le sfumature più recondite; è un'arte che lega strettamente le numerose comunità zingare a livello planetario. Artisti di diversa nazionalità e di diversa estrazione cultural-musicale interagiscono per affermare l'unicità del mondo nella sua molteplice ricchezza espressiva.

A cultural, linguistic, artistic, thin but continuous thread, links the historical voyage of the Gypsies from Northwest India to the West. The memory of this millenarian voyage lives ideally again in this 8th International Gypsy Music Festival 2001, from Rajasthan to Spain, passing through the Balcans and Italy. They are intermediate stages of an original deep cultural and artistic experience that fascinated literary men and musicians in all times and all over the world. Gypsy art culture deeply influenced classical music (see Brahams, Schubert, Liszt, De Falla, Granados, Turina, Ravel, Bartok, etc…) and yet nobody has ever rewarded Gypsies for this! Above all, everyone today ought to feel deeply respectful, in a period of political crisis and social tensions, of all minorities as the only way to create a better world and music is the only extraordinary means that unites al the peoples of the world. Being able to listen to a " diverse" music can help everybody to overcome prejudices and incomprehension. Gypsy music in fact, with its style, its rhythm and melodies represents a varied deep vibrating sound world. So this living high cultured old art becomes life itself for those who are able to appreciate it; it's an art that binds all the gypsy groups in the world. And so artists of different nationalities and of different cultural and musical origin can play together to affirm there's only one world for mankind…one varied and coloured world that speaks so many languages but has one heart.
