At north of Florence on a hill next to
Fiesole this castle of medieval origin that owes its actual aspect to the complete
reconstruction in new gothic style that has suffered in the last century. The owner of the
epoch, John Temple Leader, commissioned the works to the architect Giuseppe Fancelli that
completed the castle rebuilt in 1865. |
Vincigliata castle is mentioned from the beginning
of the 14th century as ownership of the Visdomini family, but it was
reduced to scarce ruins until the aforesaid restoration. Only in the
inside courtyard survive some original medieval coats of arms
and the ward is adorned by a cycle of frescos of the 1300, deriving
from a chapel of Scala Street in Florence. Currently the castle is
a private residence and is visible only from the outside.
