December 19, 2000: start of work for Soccavo - Monte Sant'Angelo section of Linea 7. See official announcement (in Italian) in Regione Campania site.

January 2, 2001: Regione Campania has decided a funding of 40 billion Lire to SEPSA, Circumvesuviana and Metropolitana di Napoli to buy 18 trains (see press release (in Italian) on Regione Campania site).

January 10, 2001: Vesuvio/De Meis station (Linea 4) opened (see press release in Italian - Il Mattino)

February 1, 2001: Official launch of MetroNapoli Agency, created to manage all tracks in Naples (Metro lines and cable cars). Its participants are: Comune di Napoli 51%, FS 38% and ANM 11%. First step: acquisition of ANM cable car lines.

February 12, 2001: section San Giorgio-Volla of Linea 3 opens (see press release).

March 1, 2001: Investment plan by Comune di Napoli approved: 61.5 billion Lire funding for Linea 1 (200 in 2002), 335 billion Lire for Linea 6 (410 in next two years) and 214.8 billion Lire for Linea 9 (143.2 in next two years). See press news from Il Mattino.

March, 2001: start of work on Piscinola-Secondigliano section of Linea 1 (see PDF file from Regione Campania site).

March 9, 2001: City Council meeting: Madonnelle-Botteghelle Linea 3 section approved (see Working Agenda -in Italian- in Comune di Napoli site).

March 13, 2001: programming plan has been signed by Regione Campania, Comune di Napoli, Linea1 and Circumflegrea: decision has been taken to build Cilea station of Circumflegrea (Linea5 and Linea7), and to connect it to the homonimous station of Linea1. This will be achieved by means of tapis roulants, 4 lifts and 6 escalators. Works to start in 2002 and to end in 2005, cost 77 billion Lire. March 15, 2001: test of a Vanvitelli-Museo ride. Positive outcome (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino, or news - in Italian - from La Repubblica).

March 26, 2001: transport Agencies being part of Napolipass replace paper tickets with new ones equipped with magnetic strip ("smart cards") (see news in Italian from Il Mattino, or news in Italian from La Repubblica). Naples is the first large city in Italy to use them. Monthly tickets will be rechargeable at tobacconists.

April 5, 2001: stations Cilea - Quattro Giornate, Salvator Rosa and Museo (Linea 1) open (see press release #1 and press release #2 - in Italian - from Il Mattino)

September 5, 2001: agreement has been signed in Rome among Ministry of Transports, Regione Campania and Comune di Napoli for railway investments in Naples: total funding is 479 million Liras. Funded works include, among others, tripling of Napoli-Barra section of Circumvesuviana (Linea4), and construction of the Linea7 Soccavo-Kennedy section (266 billion Liras funding) (see press release - in Italian - from La Repubblica).

October 2, 2001: tunnel of second exit of Montedonzelli (Linea1) station ready (see press release - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

November 23, 2001: Regione Campania funds 83.5 million Liras for Centro Direzionale - Chiaiano section of Linea1 and 31 million Liras for Cilea interchange between Linea1 and Linea5 (see press release - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

November 26, 2001: Regione Campania assigns 6,9 billion Liras as a contribution to Linea1 (see press release - in Italian - from Il Mattino).
