rallying:
APPEAL
The “Action: Thessalomiki 2003” is a movement that unites political
parties, trade unions, youth organisations as well as anti-war movements,
associations of farmers, students and women, intellectuals, scientists, artists
students and pensioners, movements for democratic rights and international
solidarity, migrants.
Our aim is to prepare and welcome in a militant way, the EU Summit, which
will be held in June 20-21-22, 2003.
The EU leaders will meet in order to impose new anti-popular measures, to
continue and specify previous reactionary decisions, within the framework of
capitalist restructuring. The Thessaloniki Summit assumes a special importance
because of the decisions concerning the Euro-army. A more reactionary EU is thus
sought which is the continuation of the Summits in Maastricht, Amsterdam and
Nice, a reliable support o NATO, G8 and imperialist globalization.
All these Summits as well as those in Prague, Gothenburg, Genoa,
Barcelona, Florence and Copenhagen were met by working people and youth,
resisting the New Order of international
Capital. It has now become a conviction that each movement that fights against
this policy within its own country, should simultaneously be coordinated and act
jointly with the other countries’ movements.
The political representatives of multinational capital have chosen Thessaloniki in order to
underline, in a symbolic way, its role as a city “base of operations” for
the promotion of their economic, political and military visions in the Balkans,
Central Asia, Middle East and the Mediterranean.
During the Thessaloniki Summit they will attempt to limit the working and
social security rights, to further commercialize Health and Welfare, to reduce
the agricultural income, aiming at the further increase of profits of the
multinational capital and at abolishing what is still left from the national
sovereignty, by strengthening further the EU hard core in the decision making
process.
We call upon you all to welcome, in a militant way, the architects of the
policy of the New Order, of wars, of social cruelty.
We call upon you all to welcome them with mass and multiform
mobilizations, starting from today and continuing up to and culminating in June
2003.
From an anti-imperialistic perspective and solidarity, we call upon
everyone to a constant struggle against this policy which is directed at the
expense of the peoples of the EU Member-states, the Balkans and the whole world.
Thessaloniki as the city of the class struggles of the Working Class, of
the great struggles against the dirty war of NATO and the EU in Yugoslavia,
should give its own militant answer along with working people of Europe. The
movements of workers, farmers, small business people, youth, education, peace,
migrants, democratic rights, ecology and culture will meet here, in order to
give a strong answer, a clear message of insubordination and counter-attack.
So, we call upon peoples and movements of the Balkans and Europe to
participate in these mobilizations in a massive and militant way.
Let us all together strengthen the presence of the militant pole and the
perspective of the peoples movement before, during and after the Thessaloniki
Summit, in June 2003.
