Full Text Search for StarOffice and OpenOffice.org This program can find text in many StarOffice / OpenOffice.org (from now, SO/OOo) documents. You can look for a word, part of a word or a phrase in multiple files and folders (directories). You can also search other types of documents (e.g. plain text, Microsoft Office, etc.)
In 0.8.2 * New "Options" dialog box * o3find can remember the search folder, file types, and search preferences. In 0.8.1 * Only the Console edition was changed In 0.8 * Support for search in all files, not only SO/OOo In 0.72 * Support special characters, like accented letters (except for Windows 95)
- PC (386 or compatible) with Microsoft Windows (98/ME/2000/XP) Warning: o3find WinGUI has not been tested under Windows 95 and NT4 but it SHOULD work if Internet Explorer 4.0 or later is installed. The program does NOT require StarOffice or OpenOffice.org to be installed (BUT SO/OOo is required in order to open the files found)
Double-click the self-extracting installer and select the folder where you want to install the program. If you downloaded the ZIP archive, uncompress it to a folder of your choice. The following files will be installed: - o3find_wingui.exe The program - o3find_wingui.hlp Help document - o3find_win_readme.txt This readme file - o3find_win_leggimi.txt Italian readme file - gpl.txt License information To launch the program, double-click o3find_wingui.exe To create a shortcut on the desktop, right-click o3find_wingui.exe and select Send To -> Desktop (Create shortcut)
1) If you want to uninstall the program but save your custom preferences, simply delete the files listed above, in the "Installation" section. If you re-install o3find WinGUI later, it will remember your custom preferences. 2) If you want to uninstall the program and discard your custom preferences, first run o3find WinGUI, click the Options button, then go to the Clear tab, then click "Clear options for this user and quit". Your custom preferences will be deleted. Afterwards, delete the files listed above, in the "Installation" section. If you have a multi-user environment, each user account has got its own custom preferences, and each user must clear them, if he/she wants. (Note: if you open the Help document, Windows may create a hidden file named o3find_wingui.GID : you can safely delete it)
Custom preferences are saved in the following registry path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PaoloCopello\o3find_wingui\Settings This is a preliminary release of o3find, thus this registry path may change in future versions. For a multi-user environment, there will be many paths like this: HKEY_USERS\????\Software\PaoloCopello\o3find_wingui\Settings Where "????" is the identifier Windows assigns to the user.
The source code has been compiled under Windows (98 and XP Pro) with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 (SP5). The ZipArchive library source code is included in the source package, but without the related documentation (to save space). IMPORTANT: the ZipArchive library source code has been modified to implement some o3find features.
This program cannot read encrypted files. This program cannot read compressed files, except, of course, SO/OOo documents. Non-OOo files are searched as binary files, so that the problem of "false positives" arises. This problem occurs often with search programs. Suppose, for example, that you are looking for the word "Times": o3find will list as matching all your Microsoft Office documents that use the "Times New Roman" font, even if the word "Times" does not appear in the "actual" document. In the same way, o3find may find words like "Baseline" in a PDF document because they are PDF keywords. This program does not support UNICODE characters, but ordinary ANSI character can be found in both ANSI and UNICODE files.
