Felittese Italian Festival
The Felittese
Association of Old Forge welcomes everyone to its annual
Festival to be held September 12, 13, & 14, 2003 at 146
Third Street, Old Forge, Pennsylvania. The Festival is held
annually on the second weekend in September in commemoration
of Our Lady of Constantinople, who has been venerated in the
town of Felitto, Province of Salerno, Italy, since 1790. The
Association is comprised of descendants of Felitto, Italy, and
in keeping with the traditions of prior generations, a
festival is held annually to bring the descendants together
for a weekend of renewing and making new acquaintances,
indulging in ethnic foods, and listening to good
music.
The Festival begins with a parade on Friday
evening September 12, 2002 at 5:30 p.m. The parade will
assemble at the Old Forge High School and proceed to the
Chapel Grounds on Third Street where opening ceremonies will
begin at 6:30 p.m. Robert Delayo, Chairman of the Parade
Committee, cochaired by Marie Mordent, Janet Mordent and Marie
Gromada. The Festival Grounds open at 5:00 p.m. on Friday,
music will be provided by the “ The Cadillacs”.
A
variety of homemade foods will be served featuring gnocchi,
tripe, soffritto, porketta, sausage & peppers, cavatelli
& broccoli, pizza fritta, and assorted Italian desserts
and pastries.
On Saturday September 13, the Festival
Grounds are open from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for food and
refreshments. Entertainment on Saturday will be provided by
the “The Magics”.
On Sunday September 14, the Feast Day
of Our Lady of Constantinople, a Mass will be celebrated at
11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, located at Grace and St.
Mary’s Streets, Old Forge by the Very Reverend Joseph
Cipriano. Immediately following Mass a procession carrying the
statue of Our Lady of Constantinople will follow, beginning at
St. Mary’s Church to the Chapel grounds on Third Street in Old
Forge; thereafter the food and refreshments stands will open
at Noon. Music for Sunday evening starts at 7:30 p.m. provided
by the “Daddy O & the Sax Maniacs”.
