A short report:
With
more than 70 participants coming from several Italian towns and more than
10 foreign countries the Milano Toyota European Go Tour tournament turned
out to be a big and very successful event.
The weather that worried us after all was
not so bad allowing those interested in sightseeing or in a few days of
holiday to make their trips without the need of an open umbrella.
With a perfect score of 5 wins Vladimir
Danek from Czechia became the first winner of the new Toyota circuit
tournament followed by Victor Bogdanov from Russia and Leon Matoh
from Slovenia. Three players shared the 4th place:
Farid Ben Malek
from France, Andrei Gomenyuk from Russia and Ramon Soletti,
current Italian Champion, author of a brilliant performance.
The final
results are available online.
Several
female players attended the tournament, among them the young Shinada
Kei from Brussels. Kei is only 10 years old and already a (very strong,
taking into account the admired comments of her opponents) 3 kyu.
Other children were present,
Jan Prokop
from Czechia won 4 of his games while Marco Barbiero, 8 years old
from Italy, who discovered Go last december at the Italian Championship
and who is already 16 kyu, had urged his parents to bring him back from
holidays in order to be able to play in the tournament.
Several beginners as well as other
young Italian players were present, it is very important since they represent
the future of Italian Go; Francesco Marigo, Diego Durazzi, Cristiano
Garbarini for example, all under 21, are growing very quickly.
An unexpected and very appreciated visit
has been that of Ms. Kobayashi Chizu, 5 Dan Professional, who visited
the tournament on Saturday with her nice daughter.
Also Ms. Shigeno Yuki, 2 Dan Professional
visited the tournament and commented on a few games. A tournament game
commented by Ms. Shigeno will soon be available.
The prizegiving was held in the Palazzina Liberty on sunday afternoon at the presence of a Counseller of the Lombardy Region and Zoran Mutabzija, Vice President of the EGF. The tournament has been supported by the Town Hall of Milano thus allowing us to use such a prestigious venue for this important event.
The prizegiving was followed by a free buffet; salami, pizza, cheese, wine and beer seemed to be quite appreciated by the participants.
Last but not least for Italian Go is the fact that a main Italian newspaper, "Il Giorno" has published an extensive article on the Milano Toyota European Go Tournament, thus also allowing us to advertise our next Go promotion event which was held on the following weekend (some pictures of it are online). The newspaper article is available online.
The only regret of some of us is that because of this promotional event it has been impossible to take part in the Bled tournament; we have already promised to the organizers that we won't miss Slovenia's international tournament next year.
More information on the Milano tournament
is available also in the photo
report pages.
More information on the Toyota
European Go Tour circuit is available on the EGF web site.
