Here, in the heartland of the territory where the memory of Matilde is still very much alive, surrounded by spectacular landscapes and with a wealth of history and ageless traditions, Golf Matilde was created in 1987 in the hills just outside the city of Reggio Emilia.

The influence of Matilde di Canossa, the powerful Countess involved in one of the most famous incidents in medieval European history, still dominates. Thanks to her mediation, on January 27, 1077, the Emperor Henry IV, excommunicated in 1075, was finally received and pardoned by Pope Gregory VII after waiting humbly for three days barefoot in the snow.

Matilde built a magnificent line of defence made up of a chain of interlocking castles in the Apennines outside Reggio Emilia. Today, after long and careful restoration work, these strategically located castles and outlook towers can still be seen. Even now it is easy to see how, given the specific lie of the land, they gave complete control over the medieval territory from hills to plains below.

It is in the fascinating context, restored to its ancient splendour, that Golf Club Matilde di Conossa has been created - the end result of love of nature and the passion for golf of its founding members.

The course was designed by Marco Croze, an architect. It has 18 holes where the route followed by the players is a full 6300 metres with a par of 72. Its hallmark is the considerable variety of the natural land contours created by the Quaresimo stream that wanders over its entire length. The gentle slopes and the thick vegetation make each round technically demanding, interesting and, above all, fun. The course offers wonderful panoramas and enchanting views of distant horizons offering an exhilarating sense of freedom in full contact with nature. A driving range with putting green and pitching green is available for practice. Club professionals are available for individual or group lessons.
