The Bionic Doublebass player

The whole "Bionic doublebass player" project is dedicated to the actress Lindsay Wagner who played the role of J.Sommers in the "the Bionic Woman" TV series.

This project aims to select and develop the software tools needed for easy generating first-sight technical exercises for Doublebass students.

The programs should generate output in a format that could be easely printed in ready-to-use sheet of music. My choice for the output is Mudela. 'Mudela' means MUsic DEfinition LAnguage and you can find a gentle introduction to it in form of tutorial here [LINK]. Files in this language can be interpreted and translated in beautyful sheet of music by the GNU LilyPond software by Han-Wen Nienhuys and Jan Nieuwenhuizen. Lilypond is free software in the sense of the Free Software Foundation's General Public License.

At the time I'm writing sample programs exploring the possibilities of this approach and the related problems in hope to gain some insight. The C++ code I wrote is ugly and not user-friendly at all (it's easy to make it crash), so I prefer not to give it away.

The final goal is make this software so complete and easy-to-use that teachers with little computer knowledge but deep musical knowledge and teaching know-how could use it to generate quality exercises for their pupils.

EXAMPLES: Here you can see the first exercises I have been able to obtain with this software. They may be not so useful from the music-learning point of view but I want to stress that they are just a start point. It can be done very much better.

I need feedback from Doublebass teachers and students (but, of course, other kind of musicians are welcome). I need to know what they think about these exercises, their proposal for improvements or for different ones and ideas for related applications. As I said, I will not release this software but of course I can mail generated exercises on demand. Please point similar project and books or articles that can be useful to me.
