La globalizzazione può dare l'impressione di contribuire alla polarizzazione tra Paesi di successo e Paesi che rimangono indietro in termini relativi, e talvolta anche assoluti, di reddito procapite. Tuttavia la globalizzazione non è un gioco a somma zero con alcune economie che vincono a spese dei livelli e dell'occupazione di altre. Se le politiche sono disegnate per le necessità di mercati mondiali integrati e competitivi, allora tutti i Paesi potrebbero sviluppare il potenziale di crescita di lungo periodo, partecipare ad una economia mondiale di crescente prosperità.
