EURING and European Bird ringing schemes

The European Union for Bird Ringing
(EURING)

All European ringing schemes which supply numbered rings for the study of free-living birds are members of the EURING.

Euring was founded in 1963 with the aim of organizing and standardizing European scientific bird ringing ensuring collaboration among national centres. In 1966, Euring devised a standard coding system for ringing and recovery data allowing easier analysis and exchange of information between ringers and ringing centres. In 1977, Euring created the Euring Data Bank where most European ringing recovery data are stored in a standard format.

In 1999, scientific bird ringing celebrated his 100th anniversary with an international conference on RESULTS AND PERSPECTIVES OF BIRD RINGING (29/9 - 3/10, Helgoland, Germany) promoted by EURING and the Institut für Vogelforschung ‘Vogelwarte Helgoland’, Wilhelmshaven & Helgoland.
