Cormorants in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin: More information is available at http://www.iaglr.org/conference/. Recent studies on their biology, ecology, movements and responses to management actions. Due to its dramatic North American-wide population increase since the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Double-crested Cormorant has been a species of intense study for the last 25 years. Over that time, symposia and workshops have been held to document and discuss it's biology and the impacts it may or may not be having. With the recent Public Resource Depredation Order issued by the USFWS and various management concerns in Canada, there has been increased research on this species. The purpose of this symposium is to bring forth new data from recent studies (within the last 5 years) on this species, especially studies on movements of colour-banded (and/or transmittered) birds, quantification of cormorant impacts and responses to new management activities under the Public Resource Depredation Order. Full day symposium. The conference is the annual meeting of The International Association of Great Lakes Research (IAGLR); they publish the Journal of Great Lakes Research. The association is dedicated to research in large fresh water lakes of the world. I was wondering if you might like to announce the symposium in your International Cormorant Working Group Bulletin or in some other way spread the word among European cormorant workers. If there was sufficient interest among European workers to attend or present at this conference, there would be a good chance that the time committed to it could be increased. |
