I used to the bass player in a band called The Miracle Workers. We used to play "Run From Home" regularly as part of our live show. In 1984-85 we went to Los Angeles several times to play and record our first LP. I was fortunate to go to an Unclaimed rehearsal. I also saw them live at Al's Bar, (opening act was Redd Cross). Best thing was that at two of our LA shows we got Shelley up on stage with us to sing "Run From Home" ! Also did shows with The Long Ryders and Thee Forgiven, but thats a different story. The Unclaimed were really a great band. Search out their Moxie EP, the Hysteria EP and the Atilla the Hun LP. Garage band doesn't get any better than Shelley Ganz and The Unclaimed. Shelley is also a great guy, despite his reputation as being hard to get along with.

Shelley Ganz is criminally underestimated.About time some courageous fellow put his stuff out on cd,even the Twinkeyz had this opportunity...Anyway,the 6 -song LP remains a mystery even 20 years after it was issued. With the possible exception of the Sonics, never has a band sounded so raw& primitive.Forget the Cramps, they were the real cavemen!

My band(The Point) opened for the Unclaimed in 1983 at the sleaziest of stinkholes, the cathey de grande. When the night was over we went to get paid and the `management' told us the opening band never got paid, get our asses out now if we ever want to play there again. We told Shelley, and he stormed up to the `manager' and barked "Stop fucking these guys around pay them! They earned it!"We got our 45 bucks.God bless you,Shelley, wherever you are!

Yeah, Shelly, what a guy. He came up to me after a gig with my band the Untold Fables. He liked my bass playing and he invited me to sit in on a session. After it was over he tried to convince me to join his band and quit mine. Yeah whatever Shelly...........

Great site. I had the pleasure of meeting Shelley, seeing the Unclaimed ca. 1984-86 when I was in the Miracle Workers. We used to play 'Run From Home', and in LA, Shelley joined us onstage singing, with us backing him up ! Great band - get all the records !!

Great move to dedicate a site to Shelley. One of the best neon-garage masterminds still not been beaten. Try out his music as soon as you can. Killer. Thanks for the tribute! Hans
