REGIONAL SEMINAR ON DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN COPENHAGEN + 5 La Havana (Cuba), 4-6 May 2000 Presentation The seminar for Latin America and the Caribbean was in Havana, from 4 to 6 May 2000, with participation of the Ministry of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation (MINVEC) of the Republic of Cuba (the organ responsible for international cooperation), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) through its “Human Development Programme at the Local Level” in Cuba. The topics proposed for discussion are directly related to the subject of human development which will be discussed at the Special Event in Geneva. ØPrimarily, the discussion will focus on methods and approaches to decentralized cooperation, and innovative features that make this type of cooperation particularly effective. Related discussion topics may include, inter alia: Instruments of support for the local economy. Training and capacity building needs of national and international officials in international cooperation. Human development and culture Promotion of equity and measures against social exclusion The Organizing Committee encourages the submission of other topics related to positive experiences with development cooperation in participating countries and which can contribute to the discussions at the special event. The Organizers invite the participation of representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations interested in the Regional Seminar’s theme, in particular individuals responsible for international cooperation and those in charge of following up on the recommendations of the Social Summit in Copenhagen.
