Hey people, I just wanted to tell everyone that Leighton's new band is active and will be playing November 1 at the Parkside in San Francisco. The band is called the Featherwood Junction. Darren Grealish bass (ex-Morlocks / Monoshocks), guitar Don Cirluso (ex- Texas Terri & the Stiff Ones), guitar Bobby Bones (ex-Mau Mau's) drums Matt Tecu (ex-Weirdos) and Leighton Koizumi on vocals tambourine/maraccas/screams! We're also playing November 24 & 29 with the Warlocks in LA at the Knitting Factory and at the Derby. Look for us at this years "Shakedown" in Hollywood. Any questions please email me.
Cheers!

I know John Hanrattie. I can't tell his wear abouts as he'd shoot me. He was a bounty hunter and was forced to leave CA because he testified in court against some neo nazis who still want to kill him to this day. All I can say is that he wears a suit and tie and is working his way up the company latter. I was already into the teenage shutdown before I met him but I'm eternally thankful that he turned me onto mike stax mag "Ugly Things" and The Creation, the Sonics and the whole world of underground garage rock. Unfortunately I have yet to hear the G5 CD but I'll order it and surprise him as he doesn't own a copy himself!

You've done a superb job in telling the stories, and providing a little bit of the madness of then, today. The Gravedigger V played a reunionshow at Cavestomp '99 in New York City with The Monks, Chocolate Watch Band and others.......although it was not the entire original lineup (I switched to John's place on guitar and Sons of Hercules bassist and drummer filled in on rhythm) Leighton (not to mention Ted Friedman) was in rare form, hasn't lost it. The New offering from The Lance Rock Affair will be with Leighton as frontman of course, and also involved myself, my wife Alyssa, a guy named Todd.........and a mystery guest. Look for the Lance Rock Affair to ...Emerge in late Spring 2000.

Cheers to the boss site!!! The San Diego scene was a gas and full of great sounds (you just had to dig underground to find them). Those parties at Jerry Cornelious's, Pat Werks and Dirk Westervelts house with the Gravediggers and the Morlocks were too much fun! I can still remember Ted Freeman jumping off the stage and slapping some bonehead who yelled out "You guy's sound like the Monkey's". Ha Ha. That was a good time. I do have a reel to reel of the last ever Morlocks show in Balboa park. The sound is surprisingly good! Any takers? Leightons new project is called "the Lance Rock Affair" The material is strong. We are lookin at January as the time to unveil the new grooves. The first demo/CD will be called "Easy listening for the under acheiver" P.S. Bring a change of underwear! Darren Grealish

I'm glad to hear that Leighton is alive after all. Perhaps it's not too late to play a reunion show, but don't believe any rumors you hear. Leighton was the essential part of the Gravedigger V -- Tommy Clarke may have been the crucial one of the Morlocks, however. I wonder where he is? For myself, I would rather be remembered as having gone on to the Wickershams with Ron Silva, and the Nashville Ramblers/the Black Diamonds, than to be reminded of the four months I spent with Manual Scan, but don't tell Bart Mendoza; he might take offense. Kudos to Roberto Feruglio for digging the old San Diego sounds and putting this memorial together. Thanks.

Thank you so much for creating this page. I play in a creepy garage band (also from San Diego) called The Gory Details, and the Gravedigger 5 paved the way for a band like us.
