The orchestra of Voyage en Sardaigne nature rotates
around a solid nucleus composed of: saxophones, acoustic guitars, double bass,
bandoleon, percussion, launeddas and Sardinian ethnic wind instruments. Above
all these moves a string quartet with energy and agility. This is used with
fresh composition which is rich in rhythmic and harmonic solutions. All this
together with the Tenores.

The ancient sounds of Sardinia
are the elements of one of the most noble and fascinating types of music in the
Mediterranean. Of ancient and mysterious origin as is the self same origin of
the Sardinian people and their rich musical traditions.
At the end of
this century Voyage en Sardaigne proposes
a new concept of the “tradition in transition” seeking a transverse route
between ancient music and modern languages, such as jazz improvisation,
classical music and other ethnic influences from overseas.
Ancient and
modern instruments –launeddas,
saxophones, percussion instruments – live side by side in this show creating
an original sound which is full of suggestion.
The music
does not follow a strictly geographical route - it is a continuous flashback to the frequent trips to the
interior of the island, its landscapes, the meetings with the traditions and its
interpreters and all that which could have influenced this work … the colour
of the sandstone, the scent of rosemary, the winding roads, the wrinkles on a
face.
The concert is the orchestral version of the music of the CD Voyage
en Sardaigne published for "il
manifesto" at the start of 1998.

Enzo Favata borrows the title of the book by La Marmora, Voyage en Sardaigne, so
as to give us an image of Sardinia as seen by the amazed eyes of a traveller that, seeing her for the first time discovers the treasures that we are not able to envision, just like the way that we cannot see our own eyelashes because they are too near.
For the first time twenty musicians have gathered for a musical and literary project that constitutes an initial voyage through the suggestion of the Sardinian landscape and culture.
