Ajò - E. Favata (1997)
Musical migrations between Sardinia and Argentina. A meeting with Dino Saluzzi, the uncontested master of the Bandoleon.

Ajò is an expression typical of the Sardinian people which is very effective and invites one to set off, to start a voyage.
Even in Sardinia there have been those who, four generations ago, went overseas, towards the Americas, on those ships, the story of which accompanies the emigrants of every place. Similar stories, united by a common sentiment, nostalgia.
Such as the nostalgia of those two old people who returned to our island with their speech which was no longer either Sardinian or Spanish, but a bit of one and a bit of the other: they had lived a life far away from their own land and their memory of the old places was by then clouded; then when they return to the motherland they suffer another nostalgia, that of the place where they had passed the greater part of their lives: Argentina.
Writing the music for this project I have thought a lot about these stories, these faces, these eternal wandering spirits, these windy lands so far, yet so near where the family and religion still are of profound value. I have attempted to reconstruct a pathway of the memory which resembled somewhat the strange way of speaking of the old emigrants.
In this voyage on the sea of memory I needed good companions and as well as my close crew, I asked the help of an Argentinean of Italian origin, Dino Saluzzi, if he was willing to undertake this route between Sardinia and Argentina. In this way the ship left and we arrived at our destination.
